Man is a tool-making animal

Chess teaches foresight, by having to plan ahead; vigilance, by having to keep watch over the whole chess board; caution, by having to restrain ourselves from making hasty moves; and finally, we learn from chess the greatest maxim in life - that even when everything seems to be going badly for us we should not lose heart, but always hoping for a change for the better, steadfastly continue searching for the solutions to our problems.

Strict punctuality is a cheap virtue.

An education is the investment with the greatest returns.

While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.

Since I cannot govern my own tongue, though within my own teeth, how can I hope to govern the tongue of others?

That there is one God, who made all things. That he governs the world by his providence. That he might be worshipped by adoration, prayer, and thanksgiving. But that the most acceptable service of God is doing good to Man. That the Soul is immortal. And that God will certainly reward virtue and punish vice, either here or hereafter.
