Providence is wonderfully intricate. Ah! You want always to see through Providence, do you not? You never will, I assure you. You have not eyes good enough. You want to see what good that affliction was to you; you must believe it. You want to see how it can bring good to the soul; you may be enabled in a little time; but you cannot see it now; you must believe it. Honor God by trusting Him.

Faith goes up the stairs that love has built and looks out the windows which hope has opened.

You will always know whether you are delivered from the guilt of sin by answering this question: Am I delivered from the love of sin?

When we believe that we ought to be satisfied, rather than God glorified, we set God below ourselves, imagine that He should submit His own honor to our advantage; we make ourselves more glorious than God, as though we were not made for Him, but He made for us; this is to have a very low esteem of the majesty of God.

The Gospel is like a caged lion. It does not need to be defended, it just needs to be let out of its cage.

Death has no sting to a Believer. Once death was the penalty of sin-sin being forgiven, the penalty ceases and Christians do not die, now, as a punishment for their sin, but they die that they may be prepared to live!

How gentle and tender ought we to be with others who are foolish when we remember how foolish we are ourselves
