Our joy ends where love of the world begins.

...True prayer is measured by weight, not by length. A single groan before God may have more fullness of prayer in it than a fine oration of great length.

A little thorn may cause much suffering. A little cloud may hide the sun. Little foxes spoil the vines; and little sins do mischief to the tender heart. These little sins burrow in the soul, and make it so full of that which is hateful to Christ, that he will hold no comfortable fellowship and communion with us. A great sin cannot destroy a Christian, but a little sin can make him miserable.

Dear brethren, this is exactly what we have to do, we have to pawn the present for the future. We must be satisfied to give up anything which Christ may require of us for the sake of that which is to come. Our inheritance is not on this side of Jordan. Our joy is yet to be revealed. I grant you that we have much thrown in, for the Lord is a good paymaster; but on the road to heaven he gives us only our spending money.

The friend of God must not spend a day without God, and he must undertake no work apart from his God.

There is no reward from God to those who seek it from men.

Christians are not so much in danger when they are persecuted as when they are admired.
