I'm scared to death of being poor. It's like a fat girl who loses 500 pounds but is always fat inside. I grew up poor and will always feel poor inside. It's my pet paranoia.

I just don't understand how anyone would want to be a Republican. I just can't figure it. I don't understand. If you're poor, if you're any kind of minority - gay, black, Latino, anything. If you're not a rich born-again-Christian, I don't get it.

I haven't a clue why I've lasted so long. There's no reason. There are many people more talented than me. I think it's luck.

The only thing in the world you can change is yourself and that makes all the difference in the world.

All of us invent ourselves. Some of us just have more imagination than others.

If you're black in this country, if you're a woman in this country, if you are any minority in this country at all, what could possibly possess you to vote Republican?
