Speak the truth, do not yield to anger; give, if thou art asked for little; by these three steps thou wilt go near the gods.

Watch their actions, observe their motives, examine wherein they dwell content; won't you know what kind of person they are?

Before putting their States into proper order, they regulated their own families. Before regulating their families, they regulated themselves. Before regulating themselves, they tried to be sincere in their thoughts. Before being sincere in their thoughts, they tried to see things exactly as they really were.
