If others are happy, we will be happy. If others suffer, ultimately we all suffer.

If we have a positive mental attitude, then even when surrounded by hostility, we shall not lack inner peace.

I really feel that some people neglect and overlook compassion because they associate it with religion. Of course, everyone is free to choose whether they pay religion any regard, but to neglect compassion is a mistake because it is the source of our own well-being.

Our world and our lives have become increasingly interdependent, so when our neighbour is harmed, it affects us too. Therefore we have to abandon outdated notions of 'them' and 'us' and think of our world much more in terms of a great 'US', a greater human family.

There is no self-interest completely unrelated to others' interests. Due to the fundamental interconnectedness which lies at the heart of reality, your interest is also my interest. From this it becomes clear that "my" interest and "your" interest are intimately connected. In a deep sense, they converge.

Compassion seems to be the greatest power.

Perhaps our teachings seem less religious and more technical, like psychology, so they are easier for secular people to use.
