On the whole our armed services have been doing pretty well in the way of keeping us defended, but I hope our State Department will remember that it is really the department of achieving peace.

If human beings can be trained for cruelty and greed and a belief in power which comes through hate and fear and force, certainly we can train equally well for greatness and mercy and the power of love which comes because of the strength of the good qualities to be found in the soul of every human being.

I never met Mahatma Gandhi, but, I think everyone felt they knew him even if they hadn't met him.

So, after all, we are but puppets, creatures of our fate, not commanding it but being molded by it.
