I was in a store in Halifax, Nova Scotia that I love, sort of like an environmental friendly sort of store. But they had a great book section. So I went in there all the time. The woman who worked there - which I feel so bad; I've forgotten her name - she handed me the book and she said, "Hey, you should read this. I think it would make a good movie." I remember reading the back of it and I was like, "Huh." Then I just devoured the book and I was so moved by it and said, "Why don't we start developing this into a film?" So that's how it ['Into the Forest'] all started.
Ellen PageI think the bottom line is that we have to learn from what's going on in other countries. We have to learn from what people are doing to and live fully in really dire, hard circumstances, and then compare that to our own experience.
Ellen PageIf you're a girl and you don't fit the very specific vision of what a girl should be, which is always from a man's perspective, then you're a little bit at a loss.
Ellen PageNow, I try not to read gossip as a rule. But the other day, a website ran an article with a picture of me wearing sweatpants on the way to the gym. And the writer asked, 'Why does this petite beauty insist on dressing like a massive man?' Because I like to be comfortable.
Ellen PageIf you can really hear more of the root cause, maybe there are ways that we can get beyond it, or destroy it, actually.
Ellen PageI've become really interested in permaculture, simplifying my life and doing everything I can to develop more of a sustainable lifestyle.
Ellen PageI just love it so much [acting]. When I get passionate, Iโll give you everything until I collapse. Thatโs not in any โLook at me, Iโm a saintโ kind of way. Itโs very selfish in a way. Iโm doing this really awesome exploration, and itโs like a drug, because I completely disappear.
