The feeling I have reminds me of New Yearโs Eve, when the countdown is coming and Iโm not quite sure whether to grab my camera or just live in the moment. Usually I grab the camera and later regret it when the picture doesnโt turn out. Then I feel enormously let down and think to myself that the night would have been more fun if it didnโt mean quite so much, if I werenโt forced to analyze where Iโve been and where Iโm going.
Emily GiffinI think some of the biggest time sucks are regret and guilt, and I have to fight against those things all the time. In a way, it's a good thing, because it can motivate you to make amends and forgive, but regrets are really, I think, a supreme waste of time in many ways.
Emily GiffinI try to write about real women, real people - in other words flawed characters. I find flawed characters much more interesting than perfect ones and enjoy the challenge of making readers root for them in spite of their unsympathetic path and destructive choices. Life is about the gray areas. Things are seldom black and white, even when we wish they were and think they should be, and I like exploring this nuanced terrain.
