By whomsoever no evil is done in deed, or word, or thought, him I call a Brahmin (holy man) who is guarded in these three.

One is not low because of birth nor does birth make one holy. Deeds alone make one low, deeds alone make one holy.

Pay no attention to the faults of others, things done or left undone by others. Consider only what by oneself is done or left undone.

Do not speak harshly to any one; those who are spoken to will answer thee in the same way. Angry speech is painful: blows for blows will touch thee.

Whatever an enemy might do to an enemy, or a foe to a foe, the ill-directed mind can do to you even worse.

Foolish, ignorant people indulge in careless lives, whereas a clever man guards his attention as his most precious possession.

If desires are not uprooted, sorrows grow again in you.
