I have no designs on society, or nature, or God. I am simply what I am, or I begin to be that. I live in the present. I only remember the past, and anticipate the future. I love to live.

The process of discovery is very simple. An unwearied and systematic application of known laws to nature, causes the unknown to reveal themselves. Almost any mode of observation will be successful at last, for what is most wanted is method.

Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked, in which you can walk with love and reverence.

The question is not what you look at – but how you look & whether you see.

If the injustice is part of the necessary friction of the machine of government, let it go, let it go: perchance it will wear smooth

The very uprightness of the pines and maples asserts the ancient rectitude and vigor of nature. Our lives need the relief of such a background, where the pine flourishes and the jay still screams.

Be not anxious to avoid poverty. In this way the wealth of the universe may be securely invested.
