A Bible reading laity is a nation's surest defence against error.

The cause of Christ does not need less working, but it does need among the workers, more praying.

I want people to fill their minds with passages of Scripture while they are well and strong, that they may have sure help in the day of need. I want them to be diligent in studying their Bibles, and becoming familiar with its contents, in order that the grand old Book may stand by them and talk with them when all earthly friends fail.

The fear of punishment, the desire of reward, the sense of duty, are all useful arguments, in their way, to persuade people to holiness. But they are all weak and powerless, until a person loves Christ.

Just as the first sign of life in an infant when born into the world is the act of breathing, so the first act of men and women when they are born again is praying.

When you cannot answer a skeptic, be content to wait for more light; but never forsake a great principle.

Troublous times, departures from the faith, evil men waxing worse and worse, love waxing cold, are things distinctly predicted.
