I wanted to be a visual artist because I grew up around a lot of painters and photographers and had a very artistic upbringing. And I fantasized about being a drug-dealer when I was a kid. I thought it would be a good opportunity; I knew that the market would be strong. Is that bizarre?
Jared LetoThis is an industry [high fashion] that has an abundance of over-confidence. I don't think anyone would dispute that, and I'm not trying to pick on anybody, but that's just a fact, right? And sometimes that's fun.
Jared LetoOn the one hand, how many people do you need to love you before you feel OK about yourself?
Jared LetoI'm a vegan. I respect the environment, and I do my best to spread the importance of such an issue.
Jared LetoI showed up in L.A. with $500 and a backpack and I stayed at a shelter, so nobody handed me anything. I worked for every single thing that I have.
Jared LetoI come from a visual background, and I grew up around a lot of hippies and artists. My mom and my brother and I moved around a lot. We basically moved every couple of years, and I went to a lot of different schools. But creativity, for us, was always a way of life. It was never a job. Being an artist was a passion and a way of life.
