Paul Hollywood's "You're under baked" is even better than "You're fired."

I get recognized just often enough to keep my ego bouncing along, but not so much that I can't go places.

I go to movies expecting to have a whole experience. If I want a movie that doesn't end I'll go to a French movie. A movie has to be complete within itself, it can't just build off the first one or play variations.

I'd rather make a show 100 people need to see, than a show that 1000 people want to see.

At the end of the day I have many answers for it. It has to do with my mom, who was an extraordinary woman, and a great feminist. It has to do with the people in my life. It has to do with a lot of different things, but -- I don't know! Because I'm not just writing from the female characters for other people. I have a desire to see them in our culture -- that was not met for most of my childhood. Except occasionally by James Cameron. I'll always protect what I'm working on. Which is why more and more of it is stuff only I can ruin.

You go to movies to see people you love suffer - that's why you go to the movies. You don't go to see a movie about a guy who already knows he has a wonderful life.
