Trent looked me up and down. โIs that all youโre going to do?โ My pulse quickened, and I gazed at the front of the basilica where the scratching was coming from. โI might have a snack later if nothing comes through those doors.
Kim HarrisonIโm not going to pick her up and carry her screaming to the basement,โ Trent said. โItโs a workday. Besides, she has a crutch.โ โCrutch or no, sheโs hurt!โ Ceri protested. โI mean,โ Trent said intently, โshe can hit me with it if I do something she doesnโt like.
Kim HarrisonTrent, do you have any weapons? Like a gun?โ He looked at me in disgust. โYouโre here to protect me,โ he said as he closed the distance between us and stood beside me. โYou didnโt bring a weapon?โ โYeah, I brought a weapon,โ I snapped as I brought my splat gun out and aimed it at the ceiling where the sounds were coming from. โI just thought that since youโre a freaking murderer you might have a gun, too (...)
Kim HarrisonActually,โ I said, hesitant to bring it up, โI was thinking along the lines of a curse that can turn you human.โ โOr witch?โ Ivy said, surprising me. There was a soft vulnerability in her and I blinked. โYou donโt want to be a witch,โ I said quickly. โWhy not? You are.
Kim HarrisonMy God", he whispered. What have I done to her? He thought, humbled. The spell was broken, but it wasn't sealed, and her soul was bare to him, the scars of her tragic past and her triumphs over pain and her aching need to find her place. He just wanted to hold her to him and tell her it would be okay, that she had survived and was beautiful.
