When I was a kid, you went and saw movies. You knew very little about the actor's personal life except what would be, like, in Photoplay or something. We didn't hear "The Making of..." every single movie, and actors didn't have to put this tremendous piece of work that they'd done into a sound bite.

I play music but only for myself. For my ears only.

I don't think that there's much hiding that actors can do. If you're doing good work, you're showing a part of yourself to someone.

And I like to keep whatever is mine remaining that way. It's a funny little game to play and it's a slippery slope. I always say to myself I'm never going to give anything away because there's never any point or benefit for me.

I don’t think I would ever have been able to be an actress had I not started at nine years old. I would have been the last person to stand up and say, ‘I’d like to star in the play.’

Adoption was something that was always under my skin, that I knew would be a part of my life, and, when I decided to start filing, it was very clear. It was like I knew that this was exactly what it needed to be. So then you go through the process, and it's tough. It's not the easiest process - and then again, I've never liked things too easy in life. But it emotionally knocks you out.

I like women who have an opinion one way or the other or who have a great sense of humor and a great sense of adventure. I can be friends with women who are not like that, but I don't have that hard emotional connection.
