In personal conversations between director and actor, the male directors that I've worked with are just as emotional. Maybe it's because I had to start having very intimate conversations with adult men at a very young age in order to get the work, but I'm really comfortable with dudes. I mean, we push boundaries in this business in terms of getting to know people.
Kristen StewartI say whatever I want, I look whatever I want. That doesn't mean I don't question myself and feel insecure.
Kristen StewartI'll decide to do a movie and then go oh, like "Twilight" fans are probably going to react to this or whatever. But that's always an afterthought. Like I don't plan things out based on other people's opinions of how like I think they're going to receive them. I do it like for the experience.
Kristen StewartI feel like nowadays everyone perceives you the same way. You can't even have a private life away from your family; it's like everything is very hands-on!
Kristen StewartI mean there's that awesome quote where Joanne Woodward said, 'Acting is like sex: you should do it, not talk about it.'
Kristen StewartIt's okay,' you know? It's okay to be you. It's okay to just not be okay. It's okay to not be okay.
Kristen StewartBut, I'm kind of a control freak. I get really freaked out if I don't know what's going on and what's going to happen.
Kristen StewartI really, specifically, love acting, and I think it's a really cool thing to be really indulgent and follow that.
Kristen StewartFemales want other females to be really strong, so there are a whole lot of scripts that are basically just male parts renamed as a girl.
Kristen StewartI was so sensitive and touchy in a way that my character would never be. I was so protective and defensive of young girls, and sex in general.
Kristen StewartYou should have the opportunity to be more than one person with different people because you have that within you. It's not like you're faking it. If everyone knows you so well and can always get a hold of you, then you're stuck to this thing that people think you are. You should have the opportunity to reinvent yourself. Because you do. Naturally.
Kristen StewartDespite what people think, I was such a rule follower at school. I loved the whole slacker look, like, 'Hey, I don't care, whatever,' but if I didn't turn my homework in, I would panic.
Kristen StewartActors can be very precious about their work and their scenes, but I think good actors have a strong understanding of narrative and are very often not as precious about that stuff. They just can't be because they understand what makes for a better film, and that it's the job of the actor to work toward that, and then if you want you can go to acting class or workshops. But making movies is not workshops.
Kristen StewartI know [people talk about sex now all the time] But do they really talk about it personally?
Kristen StewartI love people and want to be good to people. If I'm in restaurant and somebody doesn't treat a waitress right, I literally will leave. I will unfriend you. You are not my friend anymore.
Kristen StewartI'm just not made for that kind of live audience where you don't create a fourth wall.
Kristen StewartOnce you have done with school, you realise that it is just a smaller version of life, and really I have felt that I should have been an adult since I was aged about five.
Kristen StewartIt's very rare that you get to play a character over the course of so many films. Bella meant a lot to me and she will always be such a formative event in my career. I grew up with her and she and I have been on this great journey together. I also see many parallels between her evolution and my own because I lived through so many things along the way while playing Bella and having this connection to so many people involved in making the films over the years. It would be impossible for me to separate my world from Bella's.
Kristen StewartI push myself as hard as I can. Sometimes that can be painful and stressful but inthe end it's worth the price... I like to play characters that I can draw from in my own life. I've invested so much of my life into my work that I almost don't have any choice.
Kristen StewartI don't know who said it, but it really kind of hit me hard in the stomach: "The only difference between all of us is that some of us were loved and some of us weren't."
Kristen StewartA lot of times, it gets weird when some guy is playing your dad. It feels weird to you. It feels like they're forcing sentiment. It's disgusting.
Kristen StewartPeople think that I'm really untouchable, and that's also translated into a lot of people thinking that I'm super-ungrateful.
Kristen StewartI don't want to be a movie star like Angelina Jolie. Nothing about being a celebrity is desirable. I'm an actor. It's bizarre to me that everybody's so obsessive.
Kristen StewartI mean, I love L.A. - I love living here. But I wish that we could make things without the need to hit a home run every single time. It's a unique thing to Hollywood that if you don't do that every time, then you're considered a failure. But it's like, 'Well, are you making movies to be successful? Or are you making movies to learn something?'
Kristen StewartDon't let other people's conversations about what you're doing or you've done be part of your own conversation.
Kristen StewartI have a great family by the way, but you need to find people who can pull something out from you that might be otherwise unseen.
Kristen StewartIt's not hard for me to figure out who I like or who my friends are. I trust my energy meter, but I'm also not afraid to let people in who might hurt me.
Kristen StewartPeople are always going to find the ones with the weird like buzz-worthy thing about a movie and like run with it.
Kristen StewartI just want the fans of the book to be happy. I don't necessarily care about anyone else.
Kristen StewartI hear actresses talking about this all the time - this idea that you sit in meetings and the studio says, "Well, you can't do that because the audience won't like that. They won't root for you. It's not sympathetic." I think that we've been served this one dish for so long that we believe that it's all that audiences want, but when we test them or throw something out there that has some truth to it, they seem to always respond.
Kristen StewartMy family are amazing. I had like, the perfect upbringing. It sucks for people like Lindsey [Lohan], but it's not her fault she's so off the rails.
Kristen StewartIf you didn't have anxiety, then you wouldn't have passion for anything. The reason we have anxiety is because you care and you're thoughtful.
Kristen StewartIt's this weird thing that I always feel like I have to gauge in myself, like, "Don't come on too strong because you won't get your way."
Kristen StewartI don't apply [being a role model] to the choices I make. I feel like a role model is not necessarily someone you want to imitate, just someone you admire.
Kristen StewartOne thing that I don't think I do is play characters. Once you start claiming that you can do something that you're not, you're crazy. I think scripts can really surprise you. You go, "Wow, I did not know that that response could come from me. I did not know that I had that in me." And so, the process of making the movie is just finding that and digging a little deeper.
Kristen StewartI try not to be a prisoner to those kinds of thoughts or ideas of what I think my life should be or shouldn't be. That's why I've never had a five-year plan. I always knew that I wanted to have children. It wasn't kind of something that I discovered later. I also never felt the biological clock ticking because I think I always knew that I wanted to adopt.
Kristen StewartVanity is a silly thing to be obsessed with because... it sounds clichรฉ but it leads you to emptiness; it goes away.
Kristen StewartWomen have a faith in themselves that is unpragmatic and in each other that's just emotional and f - ing strong. Both of those characters are criticized for being weak, for being subject to a man, but I think that that's a really bold and natural thing that we all want.
Kristen StewartIt's really important to like what you're wearing. It's pretty clear when I don't like what I'm wearing, and it's pretty clear if you got dressed for other people. Even if you're not looking the the best you can, or maybe your outfit isn't spot on, if it looks like you got dressed and you like it, you'll probably look cool anyway.
Kristen StewartI think we want to be around people that kind of push us and inspire us and maybe teach us.
Kristen StewartI have realized that you can close yourself off to life if you put walls up, but it's a difficult thing ... You can't see over, people can't see in, and you also can't see out. So I've gotten quite comfortable with just being unafraid. I keep saying the same thing: it's not about being fearless but really just embracing the fears and using them.
