I tried to solve a very difficult issue, and we tried to produce the best and most conservative bill possible in a Senate controlled by Harry Reid at the time, and then send it over to the House and have them, conservatives, make it even better.

I would love nothing more than compromise. But I would say to you that compromise that's not a solution is a waste of time.

We've learned more from the newspapers sometimes than we do from our open hearings, for sure.
