God overrules all mutinous accidents, brings them under His laws of fate, and makes them all serviceable to His purpose.

Our life is what our thoughts make it. Do every act of your life as if it were your last. In a word, your life is short. You must make the most of the present with the aid of reason and justice. Since it is possible that you may be quitting life this very moment, govern every act and thought accordingly.

So much worse are the consequences of anger than its causes.

As for literature, thefts cannot harm it, while the lapse of ages augments its value

Hast thou reason? I have. Why then dost not thou use it? For if this does its own work, what else dost thou wish?

Be not careless in deeds, nor confused in words, nor rambling in thought.
