You can't forgive without loving. And I don't mean sentimentality. I don't mean mush. I mean having enough courage to stand up and say, 'I forgive. I'm finished with it.'

I wrote some of the worst poetry west from the Mississippi River, but I wrote. And I finally sometimes got it right.

We need to not be in denial about what we've done, what we've come through. It will help us if we all do that.

I know for sure that love saves me and that it is here to save us all.

You never get over the fear of writing.
