I don't think we could have given a more honest version of ourselves to the world than we did for ["This Is Mike Stud"].
Mike StudAs I have continued to make music and progress as an artist, I think I am steadily getting better at expanding my lyrical content and defining who I am as an artist.
Mike StudSongs will always become a story in some way. I think it's my strongpoint as a writer musically. I don't shy away from it. It's not really an effort. It's how I write songs.
Mike StudMy music started out as a complete joke, so really all I was doing was going for witty punchlines to make all of my buddies laugh.
Mike StudWith this project ["This Is Mike Stud"] in general, I tried to put my life on record. All of these things I'm going through right now, I used to dream about and didn't think could ever happen to me.
Mike StudI'm not big on trying to label it [my rap] or trying to prove people otherwise. I'm just making records that I like and that I wanna make. I'm just making records that relate to me and that relate to my life. If you listen to what I'm saying I'm not talking about anything that isn't my life. I take pride in having truthful lyrics.
Mike StudThis is a new phase in my life. I just want people to give the show ["This Is Mike Stud"] and myself a real chance. I'm pretty self aware and know what people are going to think this show is going to be like.
Mike StudThe things I'm saying in my records are always me. I write about things in my life that I'm experiencing. When you hear the personal meaningful records that aren't about partying, they stem from my life.
Mike StudI would say "These Days." It was the title song to an album I put out, and it's really this song that you'll hear throughout the episodes and the season in the show. I write all my music, I'm an independent artist so we do it all in-house and that song embodies exactly what the title says.
Mike StudThat's why your middle finger close to your ring, coz it's either love or hate there ain't no in-between
Mike StudYoung, wild, and free, my whole life ahead of me. So I'm drinking heavily, steadily making memories.
Mike StudI didn't have musical upbringing. I never listened to music growing up, thinking "I want to make my own music". I just listened to music for pleasure.
Mike StudTo be honest, I was unaware of the huge frat-rap scene that was taking over the blogosphere until I found myself right in the middle of it. But there are really a ton of talented dudes out there doing this, and I'm just having a great time making music and being a part of it all.
Mike StudThe production companies and some of the networks reached out as well. I don't really know what triggered it, but I think what happened over time is we started to create its own fanbase [for the videos]. It's been a long process to get this TV show ["This Is Mike Stud"] right, but I'm glad we did it.
Mike StudYou're talking about a whole camera crew and being mic'd up professionally everyday and just having another group of people following you around. It's a little different than having friends pick up a camera and follow you around.
Mike StudI'm legitimately having more fun doing music, but at the same time I worked my whole life for baseball. If I had to pick, I would probably pick music. I just connect more with the fact that other people connect with that I'm doing so much. It's a much cooler thing than being good at sports.
Mike StudThis show ["This Is Mike Stud"] will have a ton of layers that people who aren't necessarily my demographic will actually really appreciate...I'm really proud.
Mike StudIt was actually the production group that ended up producing the show for us...Every musician, especially in the hip-hop community, you always make these show recaps or vlogs, and essentially what "Touring's Boring" was is, we tried to make our vlogs interesting and almost more like a TV show. That's how we got discovered by TV.
Mike StudI basically try not to waste any lines in any of my songs, and I think the witty phrases and funny lyrics I have bring a smarter sound to college hip-hop.
Mike StudMy music is basically all about witty punchlines and lyric progression that is aimed to make you laugh or say "Woah."
