The first commitment is raise your salary. One of the ways to raise your salary sometimes is to have short-term profits but there are many other ways.

Since James Madison day (and long before), there have been constant struggles over "democratic governance".

From a comparative perspective, the United States is unusual if not unique in the lack of restraints on freedom of expression. Where the voice of the people is heard, elite groups must insure their voice says the right things.

Iran is independent and independence is not tolerated.

In this possibly terminal phase of human existence, democracy and freedom are more than just ideals to be valued - they may be essential to survival.
