The expectation of my life was that I might be able to work for some good white folks. Now I got some good white folks working for me.

Reading gave me hope.

You will be wounded many times in your life. You'll make mistakes. Some people will call them failures but I have learned that failure is really God's way of saying, "Excuse me, you're moving in the wrong direction." It's just an experience, just an experience.

Now that I have all the things I once thought would make me happy, they have little meaning for me. Experience, and not just a little heartache, has taught me money buys convenience and conveniences.

The future is full of possibility, whether you make one tiny change - or a whole invigorating, thrilling, inspiring bunch of them.

I have a sense of greatness, which comes from feeling that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing on the planet - empowering people, especially women.

You look at yourself and you accept yourself for who you are, and once you accept yourself for who you are you become a better person.
