Be close to the poor and to those in need, so as to touch in their flesh the wounded flesh of Jesus. Please, draw near to them!

Jesus came to save us: let us not reject this marvelous gift!

Ask yourselves this question: How often is Jesus inside and knocking at the door to be let out, to come out? And we do not let him out because of our own need for security, because so often we are locked into ephemeral structures that serve solely to make us slaves and not free children of God.

I recognize that globalization has helped many people rise out of poverty, but it has also damned many others to starve to death. It is true that global wealth is growing in absolute terms, but inequalities have also grown and new poverty arisen.

Just as we need the courage to be happy, we also need the courage to live simply.

But you too, help one another: help one another always. One another. In this way, by helping one another, we will do some good.

When a society lacks God, even prosperity is joined by a terrible spiritual poverty.
