The ecological crisis is a moral issue.

Love is never defeated, and I could add, the history of Ireland proves it.

Consequently, theories of evolution which, in accordance with the philosophies inspiring them, consider the mind as emerging from the forces of living matter, or as a mere epiphenomenon of this matter, are incompatible with the truth about man. Nor are they able to ground the dignity of the person.

Interdependence must be transformed into solidarity based upon the principle that the goods of creation are meant for all. That which human industry produces through the processing of raw materials with the contribution of work must serve equally for the good of all.

We must understand that in order 'to do', we must first learn 'to be', that is to say, in the sweet company of Jesus in adoration.

Social justice cannot be attained by violence. Violence kills what it intends to create.

While in some cases the damage already done may well be irreversible, in many other cases it can still be halted. It is necessary, however, that the entire human community - individuals, States and international bodies - take seriously the responsibility that is theirs.
