Good taste has everything to do with being cultured and being refined, and if art has to do with anything, it has to do with being human.

We are not saved because we're good. We're good because we're saved.

It's all that pretending to be perfect that breeds inauthenticity in the church.

So go out and live real good and I promise you'll get beat up real bad. But, in a little while after you're dead, you'll be rotted away anyway. It's not gonna matter if you have a few scars. It will matter if you didn't live.

I think, writing-wise, I am probably more of a quilter than a weaver because I just get a little scrap here and a little scrap there and sew them together.

And I really suspect that of all the things we think we want to know, the only thing we really want to know is that we are loved. And if Jesus means anything, he means that you are loved. I hope you know that. And I hope you stop worrying about all the stuff you don't know, because I don't think it amounts to a hill of beans.

I hope I would leave a legacy of joy -a legacy of real compassion.
