I think if I had done anything else I would like to have been a doctor. This is the sort of polar opposition to being a writer, I suppose.
Sylvia PlathI am not a historian, but I find myself being more and more fascinated by history and now I find myself reading more and more about history. I am very interested in Napoleon, at the present: I'm very interested in battles, in wars, in Gallipoli, the First World War and so on, and I think that as I age I am becoming more and more historical. I certainly wasn't at all in my early twenties.
Sylvia PlathI need not to be more with others, but to be more & more deeply, richly alone. Recreating worlds.
Sylvia PlathI would catch sight of some flawless man off in the distance, but as soon as he moved closer I immediately saw he wouldnโt do at all.
Sylvia PlathA bad dream. To the person in the bell jar, blank and stopped as a dead baby, the world itself is the bad dream.A bad dream.I remembered everything.I remembered the cadavers and Doreen and the story of the fig-tree and Marco's diamond and the sailor on the Common and Doctor Gordon's wall-eyed nurse and the broken thermometers and the negro with his two kinds of beans and the twenty pounds I gained on insulin and the rock that bulged between sky and sea like a grey skull.Maybe forgetfulness, like a kind snow, should numb and cover them. But they were part of me. They were my landscape
