Your heart is smothering under your small ambitions.

Christianity teaches that, contra fatalism, suffering is overwhelming; contra Buddhism, suffering is real; contra karma, suffering is often unfair; but contra secularism, suffering is meaningful. There is a purpose to it, and if faced rightly, it can drive us like a nail deep into the love of God and into more stability and spiritual power than you can imagine.

The infallible test of spiritual integrity, Jesus says, is your private prayer life.

A triune God would call us to converse with him . . . because he wants to share the joy he has. Prayer is our way of entering into the happiness of God himself.

To be a Christian is a standing, a legal position. It means to be a child of God. You are or you are not, there is no try.

The best people often have terrible lives. Job is one example, and Jesus—the ultimate ‘Job,’ the only truly, fully innocent sufferer — is another.

Grace is the free, unmerited favor of God, working powerfully on the mind and heart to change lives.
