In countries like the U.S. and Great Britain, we exist in a wholly sexualized culture, where everything from cars to snack food are sold with a healthy slathering of sex to make them more commercially appealing.
Alan MooreLSD was an incredible experience. Not that Iām recommending it for anybody else; but for me it kind of ā it hammered home to me that reality was not a fixed thing. That the reality that we saw about us every day was one reality, and a valid one ā but that there were others, different perspectives where different things have meaning that were just as valid. That had a profound effect on me.
Alan MooreBlake understood. Treated it like a joke, but he understood. He saw the cracks in society, saw the little men in masks trying to hold it together...he saw the true face of the twentieth century and chose to become a reflection of it, a parody of it. No one else saw the joke. That's why he was lonely.
Alan MooreI think that we need mythology. We need a bedrock of story and legend in order to live our lives coherently.
Alan MooreAs I see it, a successful story of any kind should be almost like hypnosis: You fascinate the reader with your first sentence, draw them in further with your second sentence and have them in a mild trance by the third. Then, being careful not to wake them, you carry them away up the back alley of your narrative and when they are hopelessly lost within the story, having surrendered themselves to it, you do them terrible violence with a softball bag and then lead them whimpering to the exit on the last page. Believe me, they'll thank you for it.
