Mexico is going to need the United States to cooperate in order to rid itself of the violence and corruption that results from the drug trade.

But if you look at the track record America was not born as a colonial power, and that the same respect and partnership that America had with the Muslim world as recently as 20 or 30 years ago, there's no reason why we can't restore that. And that I think is going to be an important task.

America isn't Congress. America isn't Washington. America is the striving immigrant who starts a business, or the mom who works two low-wage jobs to give her kid a better life. America is the union leader and the CEO who put aside their differences to make the economy stronger.

It's not because John McCain doesn't care. It's because John McCain doesn't get it.
