There was a time when if you had a financial crisis in Southeast Asia somewhere, it had no impact on our markets. Today it does.

The United States, we know what happens when we start dividing ourselves along lines of race or religion or ethnicity.

It was the labor movement that helped secure so much of what we take for granted today. The 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, family leave, health insurance, Social Security, Medicare, retirement plans. The cornerstones of the middle-class security all bear the union label.

You know, when Trayvon Martin was first shot I said that this could have been my son. Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago. And when you think about why, in the African American community at least, there's a lot of pain around what happened here, I think it's important to recognize that the African American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that doesn't go away.

We all want the Greek people to prosper, to be able to provide a good life for their families and their children. That would be good for Greece, that would be good for the European Union, good for the United States, and ultimately, good for the world.

The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition, we must lead it.

The more we can encourage participation, I think the better off we are.
