I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manfuacturer's lobby. But I also believe that when a gangbanger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels someone disrespected him, we have a problem of morality. Not only do we need to punish that man for his crime, but we need to acknowledge that there's a hole in his heart, one that government programs alone may not be able to repair.
Barack ObamaIf you're willing to put in the work, the idea is that you should be able to raise a family and own a home, not go bankrupt because you got sick, 'cause you've got some health insurance that helps you deal with those difficult times; that you can send your kids to college; that you can put some money away for retirement. That's all most people want. Folks don't have unrealistic ambitions. They do believe that if they work hard, they should be able to achieve that small measure of an American dream.
Barack ObamaThe second thing we have to do is to make sure that all of us think about how we approach our elections and our democracy not only to secure them from vote tampering, but also to make sure that we understand when propaganda is being churned through the system.
Barack ObamaThere are few things in life that are harder to find and more important to keep than love. Well, love and a birth certificate.
Barack ObamaWhat Iโve realized is that life doesnโt count for much unless youโre willing to do your small part to leave our children โ all of our children โ a better world. Any fool can have a child. That doesnโt make you a father. Itโs the courage to raise a child that makes you a father.
