Yes, and only if my own true love was waiting If I could hear his heart softly pounding Yes, and only if he was lying by me Would I lie in my bed once again.
Bob DylanThere's not even room enough to be anywhere/It's not dark yet, but it's getting there.../I was born here and I'll die here against my will/I know it looks like I'm moving, but I'm standing still.
Bob DylanI wanted to understand things and then be free of them. I needed to learn how to telescope things, ideas. Things were too big to see all at once, like all the books in the library-everything laying around on all the tables. You might be able to put it all into one paragraph or into one verse of a song if you could get it right.
Bob DylanWell, my daddy, he didn't leave me much, you know he was a very simple man, but what he did tell me was this, he did say, son, he said, he say, you know it's possible to become so defiled in this world that your own father and mother will abandon you and if that happens, God will always believe in your ability to mend your ways.
Bob DylanA lot of people say there is no happiness in this life, and certainly there's no permanent happiness. But self-sufficiency creates happiness. Happiness is a state of bliss. Just because you're satisfied one moment - saying yes, it's a good meal, makes me happy - well, that's not going to necessarily be true the next hour. Life has its ups and downs, and time has to be your partner. Time is your soul mate. Children are happy. But they haven't really experienced ups and downs yet. I'm not exactly sure what happiness even means. I don't know if I personally could define it.

Bob DylanI don't know if I call myself a poet or not. I would like to, but I'm not really qualified to make that decision, because I come in on such a back door, that I don't know what a Robert Frost or a [John] Keats or a T.S. Eliot would really think of my stuff.
Bob DylanRomance never does go out of fashion. It's radical. But it's out of step with the current media culture.
Bob DylanI just don't hear anyone else making the music I'm making in my head, so I'll have to do it myself.
Bob DylanMy songs were influenced not so much by poetry on the page but by poetry being recited by the poets who recited poems with jazz bands.

Bob DylanIf you're looking to get silly, you better go back to from where you came. because the cops don't need you and man they expect the same.
Bob DylanDown the street the dogs are barking And the day is getting dark. As the night comes in a-falling, The dogsยดll lose their bark And the silent night will shatter From the sounds inside my mind, For Iยดm one to many mornings And a thousand miles behind. From the crossroads of my doorstep, My eyes they start to fade, As I turn my head back to the room Where my love and I have laid.
Bob DylanThere is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun, and it's been the ruin of many a poor boy and God I know I'm one.
Bob DylanYou don't necessarily have to write to be a poet. Some people work in gas stations and they're poets. I don't call myself a poet, because I don't like the word. I'm a trapeze artist.
Bob DylanI think of rock 'n' roll as a combination of country blues and swing band music, not Chicago blues, and modern pop.
