A writer’s job is to cultivate what can go wrong.

With every lecture, you’re forced to look again at every choice you’ve made over the lesson-by-lesson chain of your entire life. And after all these years, you see how little you have to work with, how limited your life and education have been. How scant was your courage and curiosity. Not to mention your expectations.

Every time I write something, I think, this is the most offensive thing I will ever write. But no. I always surprise myself.

Worker bees can leave. Even drones can fly away. The Queen is their slave.

Until today, it really pissed me off that I'd become this totally centered Zen Master and nobody had noticed. Still, I'm doing the little FAX thing. I write little HAIKU things and FAX them around to everyone. When I pass people in the hall at work, I get totally ZEN right in everyone's hostile little FACE.

Yes, these are bruises from fighting and I'm okay with that.

The same as real life, there is no happily ever after.
