Look at children. Of course they may quarrel, but generally speaking they do not harbor ill feelings as much or as long as adults do. Most adults have the advantage of education over children, but what is the use of an education if they show a big smile while hiding negative feelings deep inside? Children don๏ฟฝt usually act in such a manner. If they feel angry with someone, they express it, and then it is finished. They can still play with that person the following day.
Dalai LamaLife does not wait: Whether we spend our lives meaningfully or not, the time will be used up moment by moment.
Dalai LamaAlthough we are all the same in not wanting problems and wanting a peaceful life, we tend to create a lot of problems for ourselves. Encountering those problems, anger develops and overwhelms our mind, which leads to violence. A good way to counter this and to work for a more peaceful world is to develop concern for others. Then our anger, jealousy and other destructive emotions will naturally weaken and diminish.
Dalai LamaIf we are demoralized, sad and only complain, weโll not solve our problems. If we only pray for a solution, weโll not solve our problems. We need to face them, to deal with them without violence, but with confidence - and never give up. If you adopt a non-violent approach, but are also hesitant within, youโll not succeed. You have to have confidence and keep up your efforts - in other words, never give up.
Dalai LamaIndulgence in resentment and vengeance will only further increase miseries to oneself and others in this life and in lives to come.
Dalai LamaOne of the expressions of Western over-reliance on technology can be seen in the lack of patience in industrial society. When you deal with technology, everything happens at the touch of a button. This conditions you to become so impatient that when you have an emotional or personal crisis, you don't allow time for the solution to take effect. This leads to all sorts of rash responses, like quarrels, fights and so on.
