If there's something you know and there's something you feel, but you can't quite express it, you will hear it somewhere. And you don't have to worry, because someone will get it sung out.

I couldn't have children, I tried to for years. I've never been pregnant in my life. When I was a girl and fooling around I was scared to death I'd get pregnant, and then when I got married and wanted to have children I couldn't have any. But I don't miss it. I did for awhile, but I realize that I am everybody's mother.

I wear wigs all the time on shows, and every day when I'm in public, at Dollywood. People say, 'How many wigs do you have?' And I say, 'Well, at least 365 because I wear at least one a day.'

I really learned to sing in church, I think, really with emotion.

I love writing every song I can like a little mini movie. I like to have a character, or some characters, and really paint a picture with the song.

I listen to my old records and I think, 'How did I ever get on the radio?'

[On growing up in a large family with little money:] ... to take a bath ... we just had a pan of water and we'd wash down as far as possible, and we'd wash up as far as possible. Then, when somebody'd clear the room, we'd wash possible.
