Having a big gay following, I get hate mail and threats. Some people are blind or ignorant, and you can't be that prejudiced and hateful and go through this world and still be happy.

I just write all the time. In my whole life I've never had what I've heard people talk about writer's block. I've never had that. Life is like a song to me. I just hear everything in music, so I have never once thought "Well, I'm never gonna be able to write again." I've got thousands of songs.

All the fame and fortune, glory and prestige, can't make me happy if it goes against what I believe.

Most country songs, certainly all the stuff I've written, are stories driven by characters.

I hope people realise that there is a brain underneath the hair and a heart underneath the boobs.
