There is something to the fact that when you're on stage or when you're playing someone else, you're able to transmute all the things inside you that maybe get a bit blocked by the wall of shyness, or the wall of anxiety, or [by] overthinking. They sort of fall away in that moment and channeled into something else.
Emma StoneItโs such a fun job, and it can be silly and light and about making people laugh. I think I was doing it a disservice by thinking itโs not something ultimately important. I always was saying, โIโm not saving lives; Iโm not a brain surgeon.โ And thatโs trueโIโm not saving anyone from any life-threatening illnesses. But I get to tell stories, and thatโs a pretty important task.
Emma StoneI think a lot of female actors have a real fear of not looking their best. They learn to prize their vanity over a role in which they have to look like a moron. They're worried they'll damage their sex appeal. Thankfully, I have no problem looking like a moron!
Emma StoneBy county, there's like 14 different accents in Mississippi alone. And now, present day, a Mississippi accent is different than in 1963. So we had a dialect coach, which is like going to visit France and having to translate all your emotions into French, and French isn't your first language. I had to go through that filter, so it was interesting.
