Have a policy of pre-emptive forgiveness. Refuse to get offended by petty things. Make a decision early on to cut the other person some slack in everyday life. Then you can take comfort in knowing they'll do it for you, as well. Accepting each other, flaws and all, is what love is all about.
Gaelen FoleyYouโre not terrified of me. Youโre terrified of letting yourself care for me, and I canโt say I blame you. People who love me usually end up dead. But you see, Iโm not going to give you any choice. You belong to me now whether you like it or not.โ โI donโt like it, not one bit!โ โTry to escape,โ he suggested coolly. โGo ahead. See what happens. Give me one excuse to take what I want from you, even if it is against your will. I want you that much. Too damned much.โ He turned without warning and kissed her, flattening her back against the pine mast.

So you playacted the role of a rake who was only pretending to be in earnest, knowing you would come across as though you had the lowest of motives, when in fact, you were sincere?โ โPrecisely.โ She gave a short, wry laugh and shook her head at him. โConvoluted sir! You are a maze.โ He shot her a sulky glance. โI thought you were going to say I was amazing.โ โThat, too,โ she admitted with a rueful smile, capturing his square chin between her fingertips.
Gaelen FoleyAlice?โ She spun toward the door, her skirts whirling softly. โYes?โ she forced out. โDo you know what I am holding in my hand?โ โNo.โ โCare to guess?โ โA pitchfork?โ she asked in a stilted attempt at levity, hoping to invoke his earlier, playful mood. โNo, my dear,โ he answered drily. โA key to your room.โ โWhat?โshe breathed, aghast. โI should hate to have to use it.โ โYou have a key to this room?โ โMm-hmm.โ She took a step toward the door, panic rising up in her throat. โYouโre bluffing!โ โDo you wish me to prove it?
