A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a mentor, a teacher, a guidepost, a counsellor.

As for marigolds, poppies, hollyhocks, and valorous sunflowers, we shall never have a garden without them, both for their own sake, and for the sake of old-fashioned folks, who used to love them.

The world is to be cleaned by somebody, and you are not called of God if you are ashamed to scrub.

Affliction comes to us all ...not to impoverish, but to enrich us, as the plough enriches the field; to multiply our joy, as the seed, by planting, is multiplied a thousand-fold.

So we fall asleep in Jesus. We have played long enough at the games of life, and at last we feel the approach of death. We are tired out, and we lay our heads back on the bosom of Christ, and quietly fall asleep.

The more sincere we are in our belief, as a rule, the less demonstrative we are.

There is always work, and tools to work withal, for those, who will.
