You can accept or reject the way you are treated by other people, but until you heal the wounds of your past, you will continue to bleed. You can bandage the bleeding with food, with alcohol, with drugs, with work, with cigarettes, with sex, but eventually, it will all ooze through and stain your life. You must find the strength to open the wounds, stick your hands inside, pull out the core of the pain that is holding you in your past, the memories, and make peace with them.
Iyanla VanzantI'm not sure where I heard it or why I believed it but when I was in my mid-twenties, a few words changed my approach to and experience of prayer. The words were these: 'Every thought you think is a prayer. Every word you speak is a prayer. Every act in which you engage is a prayer, because the Spirit of God lives in you.' Now, how awesome is that?
Iyanla VanzantEverything we experience-no matter how unpleasant-comes into our lives to teach us something.
Iyanla VanzantThere is nothing you need to do to make yourself more acceptable to God. You don't have to work harder, nor do you need to change the kind of work you do. You don't have to give more money to charitable organizations. The reality is, God doesn't want you to give anyone anything if you only do it to impress God! God does not love you or find you acceptable because of anything that you do. God loves you and accepts you because you are a part of God.
Iyanla VanzantItโs self-full to be first, to be as good as possible to you. To take care of you, keep you whole and healthy. That doesnโt mean you disregard everything and everyone. But you want to come with your cup full. You know: โMy cup runneth over.โ What comes out of the cup is for yโall. Whatโs in the cup is mine. But Iโve got to keep my cup full.
