Jesus is more than a friend. He is a teacher of truth and life who shows us the way that leads to happiness.

Jesuits make a vow of obedience to the Pope. But if the Pope is a Jesuit, perhaps he has to make a vow of obedience to the General of the Jesuits! I don’t know how to resolve this … I feel a Jesuit in my spirituality; in the spirituality of the Exercises, the spirituality deep in my heart.

Total openness to serving others is our hallmark, it alone is our title of honour!

May we learn to say “thank you” to God and to one another. We teach children to do it, and then we forget to do it ourselves!

We cannot give up in the face of evil. God is Love and he has defeated evil through Christ’s death and resurrection.

Almost without being aware of it, we end up being incapable of feeling compassion at the outcry of the poor, weeping for other people's pain, and feeling a need to help them, as though all this were someone else's responsibility and not our own.
