To live as true children of God means to love our neighbour and to be close to those who are lonely and in difficulty

When it comes to the care of our common home, we are living at a critical moment of history.

True love does not pay attention to the evil it suffers. It rejoices in doing good.

Indifference to our neighbour and to God also represents a real temptation for us Christians. Each year during Lent we need to hear once more the voice of the prophets who cry out and trouble our conscience.

The great biblical tradition enjoins on all peoples the duty to hear the voice of the poor. It bids us break the bonds of injustice and oppression which give rise to glaring, and indeed scandalous, social inequalities.

There is a danger that threatens everyone in the church, all of us. The danger of worldliness. It leads us to vanity, arrogance and pride.

Wretched are those who are vindictive and spiteful.
