Once you have six children, you're committed.

It is not enough to defend our values at home, in our newspapers and in our institutions. We also have to defend them in the refugee camps of the Middle East, and the ruined ghost towns of Syria.

People have two sides, a good side and a bad side, a past, a future. We must embrace both in someone we love.

The side of fairytales I don't like is that they always have happy endings, that there's just good and evil, and things are perfect. But life is a little more complicated, and that's what I try to teach my kids.

I'm not somebody that thinks about destiny and fate, but I don't walk away from it when something unfolds.

To be put simply refugees are us. And their mothers are like us, they love their children the same, they laugh, they dream, and they are survivors, they are amazing.

Like every mother, my wish - every birthday - is for my children to stay healthy (and) for my family to remain healthy.
