The very purpose of meditation is to discipline the mind and reduce afflictive emotions.

We all want to live a happy life and have a right to do so, whether through work or spiritual practice. I'm subject to destructive emotions like anger and jealousy the same as you, but we all have potential for good too. However, our existing education system is oriented towards material development; neglecting inner values. Consequently we lack a clear awareness of the inner values that are the basis of a happy life.

The very purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others. Rather, we must criticize ourselves. How much am I doing about my anger? About my attachment, about my hatred, about my pride, my jealousy? These are the things which we must check in daily life.

We have always been a nation different from the Chinese. Long ago we fought wars with them.

Unlike an external enemy, the inner enemy cannot regroup and launch a comeback once it has been destroyed from within.

Hard times build determination and inner strength. Through them we can also come to appreciate the uselessness of anger.
