To combat hatred directed toward a person, a Buddhist cultivates loving kindness toward that person.

In the past, the respect people had for religion meant that ethical practice was maintained through a majority following one religion or another. But this is no longer the case. We must therefore find some other way of establishing basic ethical principles.

Even a small act of compassion grants meaning and purpose to our lives.

A generous heart and wholesome actions lead to greater peace.

When I talk to a few thousand people, I just feel I am talking to an old friend. Like that. I never felt some kind of distance, so therefore, I feel one source of happiness. In that kind of atmosphere, my experience seems some benefit to some people.

I remain convinced that most human conflicts can be solved through genuine dialogue conducted with a spirit of openness and reconciliation.

There should be a balance between material and spiritual progress, a balance achieved through the principles based on love and compassion.
