If we can cultivate a concern for others, keeping in mind the oneness of humanity, we can build a more compassionate world.

External circumstances can contribute to one's happiness and well-being, but ultimately happiness and suffering depend on the mind.

A genuine, affectionate smile is very important in our day-to-day lives.

Religion, any religion, no matter what sort of wonderful religion, never be universal. So now education is universal, so we have to sort of find ways and means through education system, from kindergarten up to university level, to make awareness these good things, the values, inner values.

Our visit to this planet is short, so we should use our time meaningfully, which we can do by helping others wherever possible. And if we cannot help others, at least we should try not to create pain and suffering for them.

Because the twentieth century was a century of violence, let us make the twenty-first a century of dialogue.

Compassion is something really worthwhile. It is not just a religious or spiritual subject, not a matter of ideology. It is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
