Do not judge yourself harshly. Without mercy for ourselves we cannot love the world.

Whatever grounds there are for making merit productive of a future birth, all these do not equal a sixteenth part of the liberation of mind by loving-kindness. The liberation of mind by loving-kindness surpasses them and shines forth, bright and brilliant.

A person is ruined by taking the measure of other persons.

The method of trying to conquer hatred through hatred never succeeds in overcoming hatred. But, the method of overcoming hatred through non-hatred is eternally effective. That is why that method is described as eternal wisdom.

Let a man neither give himself over to pleasures ... nor yet let him give himself over to self-mortification ... To the exclusion of both these extremes, the Truth-Finder has discovered a middle course.

Overcoming yourself is better than overcoming a million enemies in battle.

Speak only the speech that neither torments self nor does harm to others. That speech is truly well spoken.
