Women do not have to embrace principles of imperialism, corporatism and militarism in order to be a feminist. There is another feminist choice, which is consistent with the broader principles of feminism.
Jill SteinAnd then you're going to have a president whose business empire depends on sort of delivering certain policies. For example, one thing that was quoted in the Newsweek report - that his [Donald Trump] pushing policies of nuclear arms for South Korea would actually improve his business network.
Jill SteinWe are in the target hairs in this election [2016]. We are all asking whether we are going to have a world at all or not going forward.
Jill SteinBy the time we complete the care for the wounded soldiers, $6 trillion, that's $50,000 per American household.
Jill SteinJack Geiger, for example, was a leader of that movement. He was part of Physicians for Social Responsibility, which was kind of one of the ways that I worked my way into social activism in medicine.
Jill SteinThat was like the moment of revelation for me that in fact we are not the lunatic fringe.
Jill SteinI'm a medical doctor by training. I'm a physician, not a politician. And I'm in this as a mother on fire. You could say, very concerned about our younger generation that does not have the jobs they need to get themselves out of the debt that they're in. And have the full weight of the climate crisis exploding on them - on their watch.
Jill SteinI was in a community where we were out demonstrating. We were holding vigils against the Vietnam War, in - like, starting in around '67, I think, before it really exploded as a big movement.
Jill SteinI mean, I really loved the mix of personal health and, kind of, community health and justice, and I really saw how they were inseparable.
Jill SteinRemember we had two Democratic houses of Congress along with the [Barack] Obama administration that laid out those policies before they lost Congress because people were very disappointed in what the Obama administration did - bailing out Wall Street instead of bailing out Main Street. So as someone who follows the climate very closely, there's no question that "all of the above" has been an absolute disaster.
Jill SteinI think people should have no illusions that Hillary [Clinton] is going to solve the climate crisis for us. We are in as much trouble with fracking as we are with coal. They both need to be stopped.
Jill SteinMy campaign filed the bill back in 2002 in the Democratic legislature, 85% Democratic, they could have prevented any possibility of a split vote.
Jill SteinI was recruited to sort of be the doc to advocate for communities that were struggling with polluting incinerators, polluting coal plants, toxic waste sites, etc.
Jill SteinThat's why we call for a New Deal prototype. Which means we are creating the jobs - nationally funded program but locally controlled - with guidelines to achieve 100% clean renewable energy through wind, water and sun by 2030. Also to create a sustainable food system, since this is a major portion of climate emissions, and also calling for public transportation as well as infrastructure restoration including in that ecosystem restoration.
Jill SteinI don't think people were overmedicated, but I think health care cannot stop in the clinic. If all we do is throw pills and procedures at people after they're already sick and we don't deal with what's making them sick to start with, that's a real problem.
Jill SteinHillary [Clinton] has the potential to do a whole lot more damage, get us into more wars, faster to pass her fracking disastrous climate program, much more easily than Donald Trump could do his.
Jill SteinYou have this big challenge going on within the Democratic Party, and many of them coming into the Greens. So there is the potential for a really profound realignment here. And remember most of this is going on with most voters not having any idea who our campaign is.
Jill SteinWe got the Supreme Court, we pressured the Supreme Court into supporting women's rights to choose.
Jill SteinWe have a system that's really founded on profit and on selling pharmaceuticals as opposed to keeping people healthy and then helping them get back to health.
Jill SteinIn the words of Frederick Douglas, power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will. We must be that demand. We are the ones we've been waiting for.
Jill SteinGrowing up after the Second World War in a Jewish family, I really understand that, and have members of my family who are very committed to this concept. My grandfather's first name was Israel and he thought it was his country. In my own sense of this issue as an American Jew, I have been on both sides of this. At this point I think it is very important for there to be separation of religion and state. It's not good for Jews. It's not good for Muslims. It's not good for Christians. The marriage of state and religion is inherently problematic.
Jill SteinThey knocked out Bernie [Sanders] as they would have knocked him out, like [Barack] Obama if he came into office. So I don't think the Democratic Party is going to solve it for us.
Jill SteinAjamu Baraka comes out of the tradition of the African-American intellectuals, the people who really been standing up for African-American rights and economic rights and workers rights.
Jill SteinThe economic insecurity of the past ten to 15 years, the 2008 Wall Street crash, NAFTA, and the loss of millions of good jobs - these directly grow out of Democratic Party neo-liberal policies.
Jill SteinThis is our right [to vote]. I urge people to come out. This hasn't - you know, the courts of law have refused to take this up in a just way. This needs to be decided in the court of public opinion.
Jill SteinI found that the walls that are created by the institutions of health care are very problematic, and I felt not good about giving people pills and procedures and then sending them back out to the things that were making them sick in the first place.
Jill SteinThere has to be - you know, this is like what I think Americans really have trouble with, an economy that's working for the privileged few, and there those privileged few are getting special favors from the political elite.
Jill SteinThe specific trigger for me was when the President [Barack Obama] put Medicare and Social Security on the chopping block. Why I got into the race - it just seemed unconscionable that the Democrats were leading the charge.
Jill SteinSeventy-five percent of voters now [in September 2016], according to the latest poll, want third-party candidates included in the debate. We have the highest disapproval and distrust rates ever in our history for these two presidential candidates, which the system is doing everything it can to force down our throats.
Jill SteinWe could solve this problem of a divided vote, or an unintended consequence of your vote, to a voting system which uses your name, where I am right now, they've got it on the ballot for a statewide referendum which enables people to.
Jill SteinI'm very careful not to isolate Israel on this but to make this part of a transformed foreign policy where we apply the same standards across the board. So it's not just Israel. It's also Saudi Arabia, it's also Egypt. It's where there are massive and systemic violations of human rights and international law.
Jill SteinLet me say, it's - what a commentary it is on American media that you have to go to Russian television in order to get covered as a candidate in this election. It's pretty outrageous. And our media could solve that in a heartbeat if they actually opened it up, you know, but they don't. So I think that's more commentary on the crisis in our media.
Jill SteinWithout the jobs being available to enable them to repay that [student-loan] debt in the course of their financial lifetimes, basically. We maintain that, yes, that's a significant chunk of change - it's $1.3 trillion - but what investment is more worth making than in a generation that does not have a future?
Jill SteinThe issues we address basically: We call for an emergency jobs program to address the emergency of climate change.
Jill SteinWe don't supply a hundred billion dollars worth of weapons to the war criminals in Saudi Arabia nor do we supply eight million dollars a day to the Israeli army that is also violating international law and human rights.
Jill SteinThe recent AP poll that came out last month said that approximately 90% of the American people felt that the two-party system was failing us in the presidential election.
Jill SteinI did my residency on the South Side of Chicago. We were taking care of people who were incredibly sick and were really struggling with poverty, and , access to food, and how could they afford their medications.
Jill SteinI think that equality needs to be broadened to include equal access to comprehensive healthcare, equal access to jobs, and equal rights in the workplace.
Jill SteinI was very engaged by the folk music movement.Bob Dylan; Joan Baez; Peter, Paul and Mary. And then I sort of discovered world music, and fell in love with ethnic music of all sorts.
Jill SteinThere are real solutions right now for us if we stand up with the courage of our convictions.
Jill SteinWhat I hear from many people on all sides of the political spectrum is that Palestine has been so carved up now that it's very hard to imagine how a two-state solution is possible. So that's what I hear many experts say, but I myself am not committing one way or the other at this point. I do feel like it's really important to allow the Israelis and Palestinians to begin rehumanizing each other and to move forward from there.
Jill SteinTo look at the climate crisis alone - and in my view this is an election where we're not just deciding what kind of a world we will be but whether we will have a world or not, going forward. And the climate crisis, for one thing, you know, Hillary [Clinton] has not repudiated fracking by any means, nor fossil fuels.
