I became really interested in the community health care movement and community health centers, which Boston was sort of a leading center for.
Jill SteinThe clock is ticking. It's time to stand up. Reject the lesser evil and that propaganda. Reject the lesser evil. Fight for the greater good like our lives depend on it, because they do. We're running out of time. It's time to stand up.
Jill SteinI think it would be a disaster if Donald Trump is elected. It will also be a disaster if Hillary Clinton is elected.
Jill SteinDemocracy needs to start with an open Presidential debate. So come on out and let's take back the promise of our democracy.
Jill SteinIn my experience what I'm hearing from people now is that they're just desperate to hear about something else.
Jill SteinI have the unique liberty as part of the Green Party that operates on the same terms. We have the ability to actually speak for everyday Americans. We are not controlled by major donors, by the influence of big banks, by fossil fuel giants, by war profiteers or insurance companies.
Jill SteinThe idea here is for communities to decide how they meet these criteria for becoming sustainable economically, ecologically and socially.Through a community decision-making process. And exactly how that would be configured, you know, remains to be established. The process of community budgeting, participatory budgeting, is one model that's been suggested.
Jill SteinYou have the Republican establishment that is moving into Hillary's [Clinton] camp. What's happening in this election is sort of proof of principle.
Jill SteinI think it's very troubling to see the reality of where the American political establishment is going - into this big tent, which is one happy Demo-Republican family.
Jill SteinThe Democratic Party is very afraid of having competition that is actually unmuzzled and that can tell the truth, which is why they keep this fear voting system in place.
Jill SteinPay attention America. Third party might not win it this year, but we could be seeing the shift away from a two party system unfolding.
Jill SteinOne of the great things about running with Ajamu Baraka is that we speak to all of America.
Jill SteinThe Green Party provides the infrastructure, kind of the culture of watchdogging the electoral bureaucracy, and how you participate, how you get on the ballot, stuff like that which is very difficult to do unless you have billions of dollars.
Jill SteinThere's one other element I just want to be sure to mention here: that is that there are 43 million young people who are locked into predatory student loan debt for whom there is no way out in the foreseeable future given the economy that we have: this predatory Wall Street driven financialized low-wage service industry economy.
Jill SteinYou know, terrorism in Afghanistan had everything to do with the support for the mujahidin by Saudi Arabia and by the CIA that sought to create an international religious extremist group to fight the Soviet Union.
Jill SteinI was really interested in how a health care center could also be a center for the arts and for music, and for bringing together sort of the isolated elements of the community.
Jill SteinIf ever there was a mobilizing energy, it is the millennial generation. So we have the power to turn out and even to win this race. Not to split the vote but to flip the vote.
Jill SteinWe know that from the GI Bill after the Second World War, where Congress found that for every dollar we put in as taxpayers into free higher education for returning GIs, we got back $7 for every dollar invested. An enormous return on our money in public benefits and improved revenue.
Jill SteinWe need to really use the full force of diplomacy. And we need to be seen and understood to be on the side of diplomacy and international law.
Jill SteinWhile they [on Cuba] were eating a healthy and sustainable diet and had no pollution over a period of years these health improvements were sustained. They spent zero dollars improving their health, but they had an absolute miracle of health improvements.
Jill SteinIt wasn't the first time. This happened to Dennis Kucinich. It happened to Jesse Jackson. They did it even to Howard Dean, creating the Dean scream. This is how they [democrats] work.
Jill SteinIn an election like this one [in 2016], not only are voters dissatisfied, but where the foundations of our economy, our democracy, our ecosystem, and international war and peace are really crumbling and are really at grave risk for failing in many ways, we need desperately to have an honest public conversation about both the track record of where we've been, what are the critical problems we are facing and what it will take to solve them.
Jill SteinThe economic misery: who passed NAFTA? You know, Bill Clinton signed that with Hillary's [Clinton] support.
Jill SteinAccording to international law, in order to use force, we need to feel, we need good evidence that we are under imminent threat of actual attack. And I think we need to stand up for international law.
Jill SteinIn order to fight militarism under Hillary Clinton or under Donald Trump, it's very important that we cast a vote on behalf of peace and on international - and a policy based on international law and human rights.
Jill Stein[Hillary Clinton'] transition director being Ken Salazar, I think, indicates that she will continue to be a friend to fracking. It's not possible to solve the climate crisis while we continue to expand fracking.
Jill SteinI'm sorry. If you're working as secretary of state, you do not have time to be spending half of your volume of emails on your own private stuff, whether it's a nonprofit private business or whether it is a for-profit private business. You should not be doing that on company time.
Jill SteinI would never say they look exactly the same, but what I would say is that the differences are not enough to save your job, to save your life, or to save the planet. And what we have right now is a race to the bottom, between the greater and lesser evil. [Donald] Trump is a very dangerous and despicable demagogue. However, you know, policy for policy, Hillary's [Clinton] are also extremely dangerous.
Jill SteinWith an abusive political relationship, with a political party that's throwing you under the bus, sister, I'm sorry to say but you don't have a future in this political party. You know, what they did to Bernie Sanders is what they have done to every progressive candidate and every real progressive movement within the party. They allow it to show its face and then they use the kill switch.
Jill SteinIf my campaign is not in the debate, we will not have a real discussion of the emergency of climate change and why in fact we need a Green New Deal type national mobilization at the scale of a wartime mobilization in order to address this emergency.
Jill SteinRemember, Bernie [Sanders] was the guy. He was the one guy that could win this, and head-to-head he could go against [Donald] Trump and win.
Jill SteinNeoliberalism, arguably, sets the course for this kind for this kind of neo-extremism, this right-wing extremism that we are facing. The only way we solve that crisis, the rise of the right-wing extreme, is by truly progressive policies that address this crisis of economic security. That will not come from the lesser evil.
Jill SteinThat's in part what the Green New Deal is designed to do. So it's not only to address the climate emergency, but also to address the economic emergency, because the recovery has really gone to the top.
Jill SteinSimply from greening our energy system and eliminating fossil fuel pollution, we get so much healthier that the savings in health care alone are enough to pay the costs of the green energy transition and would repay those costs in approximately a decade and a half in savings.
Jill SteinIf we're not in the debates there will be no real discussion of climate change, because Hillary Clinton's policy does not begin to address the threat.
Jill SteinI don't want to revisit history or try to re-interpret it, you know, but starting from where we are now, given the experience that we've had in the last, you know, since 2001, which has been an utter disaster, I don't think it's benefited us. Half of our discretionary budget, right, it's like 54% of our discretionary budget right now is being spent on the military. This is not working.
Jill SteinIt's time to use the antitrust laws and to break up this conglomerate corporate media that has now poisoned our democracy to the point that our very survival is at risk for the kinds of monstrosities that are flourishing in our corporate media dominated discussion.
Jill SteinThis is very dangerous for us, as a society, and I think people deserve a politics of integrity that is not bought and paid for by big banks, fossil fuel giants, war profiteers, insurance companies, the things that those two corporate parties both represent and which pull the strings inside the party.
Jill SteinWe have two thousand nuclear weapons on the trigger alert right now and Hillary Clinton wants to start an air war with Russia, a nuclear-armed power, over Syria as the means of addressing ISIS and the crisis in Syria.
Jill SteinIf we want to cure the things that threaten life, limb and even survival, we need to heal our sick political system. That is, not just to address our physical ailments, but the things that determine whether we're going to survive into the next century. That is war, climate change, poverty, etc. We've got to fix our politics.
Jill SteinWe call for cancelling student debt, for bailing out young people like Wall Street was bailed out to the tune of $16 trillion.
Jill SteinNew record majority of Americans dislike the two corporate front-runners [ Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton] . This is what Lesser Evil leads to. Enough.
Jill SteinIf pigs could fly, yes, of course I would vote for the Democratic Party, but pigs don't fly.
Jill Stein
